“Research in cancer care is in the spotlight at this year’s European Cancer Summit .
Winette van der Graaf, president of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and ECO Board Member, highlighted during the Research Policy session the necessity of having a better balance between industry and academia in clinical trials: ‘About 85% of clinical trials are pharma-company led. Academics are under pressure. Being awarded some publicly funded grants helps us continue our research, but we want to do more.'”

Dr. Winette van der Graaf is the President of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). She is a professor and the head of medical oncology Department at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (Amsterdam), Professor of Oncology at Erasmus MC (Rotterdam). Dr. van der Graaf is a Board member of the European Cancer Organisation (ECO), Board member of the Connective Tissue Oncology (CTOS). Her research is focused on adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer and sarcomas.
