“Pet therapy for Pediatric Hematology-Oncology patients! AIEOP’s Supportive Therapy and Nursing with the support of veterinary experts in the sector have drawn up a consensus on the relationship between animals and pediatric hematology-oncology patients to meet the ever-increasing requests for information from caregivers.

The use of pet therapy is increasingly introduced in the pediatric oncology field, with benefits reported by patients in terms of reducing the perception of pain, stress and fear, with a general improvement in quality of life.

In addition to the essential dialogue with clinicians, our working group believes it is important that written explanatory material is also available in each AIEOP center, possibly shared between the various centers, to provide clear and easily usable information to families.”
