Jason Westin: Shortage of IV fluids – a significant crisis for our healthcare system

Jason Westin posted on LinkedIn:

“The shortage of IV fluids is a significant crisis for our healthcare system, forcing many hospitals across the U.S. to ration fluids or adjust treatment plans.

While this shortage is partly due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, it also highlights vulnerabilities similar to those seen in the ongoing cancer drug shortages. In short, our generic medication supply chain is too fragile and urgently needs strengthening.

Last year, I had the honor of testifying before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on behalf of ASCO regarding cancer drug shortages, and I hope Congress will take action in 2025.
