Bernard A. Fox: THINK TANK VIII – A vision of what Immuno-oncology is and challenges us to consider what it can be

Bernard A. Fox, Co-Founder, President, and CEO of UbiVac, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“THINK TANK VIII – This conference is a vision of what Immuno-oncology (I-O) is and challenges us to consider what it can be! This was the 8th Think Tank that Prof. Michele Maio has organized in collaboration with PICI & the World Immunotherapy Council (WIC) & it opened with perspectives on investment into translating science from the “bench” to patients. Dr. John Connolly Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy (PICI), Michele Maio NIBIT Foundation, & Asthika Goonewardene, Truist Wealth presented. Accelerating the move of the most promising science into the next generation of I-O drugs will require a shift in our thinking around Public-Private Partnerships.

Strategies that link non-profits with for profit entities will require diligence, but the potential benefit for patients and families compel their consideration. The RHU The PIONeeR Project is an example of how this can work. PICI is another and the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) has another. Philanthroinvesting strategies and mission-driven Family Offices are others. This is just not for cancer! The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has a well-constructed plan that has paid dividends.

It is possible to accelerate the move of agents with potential to improve outcomes and cure patients of many diseases, but companies and institutions need to think and act differently to realize the promise.”
