”As I wrap up my duties as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, I was pleased to attend the 27th Annual Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Medical Association of Nigerians Across Great Britain (MANSAG).
The theme of this year’s conference, ‘The Future of Healthcare – A Global Perspective,’ could not be more timely. To navigate the complex systemic challenges we currently face and those that lie ahead, international cooperation is critical.
I believe that one of the most immediate and impactful areas for engagement is between our government and our partners in the United Kingdom, such as MANSAG. As a leading Nigerian medical organization in the diaspora, with over 15,000 medical professionals, MANSAG plays a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare in the British Isles, Nigeria, and beyond.
We, as a government, are extremely proud of our diaspora community and are committed to building on their skills to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.
However, we know that leveraging the full potential of diaspora engagement is not without its challenges. That is why we are proactively addressing these issues and have set up the Nigerian Health Professionals in Diaspora Engagement Programme to harness the expertise of diaspora healthcare professionals.
Through this programme, we aim to establish a two-way knowledge exchange between our healthcare professionals abroad and those working in Nigeria, via Specialized Medical Missions, Training and Capacity Building, Public-Private Partnerships, and Research and Innovation.
The challenges we face are immense, but with stronger partnerships with local and international organisations, institutions and partners, we can build a future where every Nigerian has access to quality healthcare.
I extend my thanks to the President of MANSAG for his willingness to support our initiatives and plans.”
