Concurrent thoracic radiotherapy improves the PFS and OS with acceptable toxicity in EGFR-mutated NSCLC

Gustavo Viani shared a post on Linkedin:

”Concurrent thoracic radiotherapy improves the PFS and OS with acceptable and tolerable toxicity in patients with EGFR-mutated oligo-organ metastatic NSCLC.

Target OBJECTIVE
• Investigate whether combining first-line lung cancer (TRT) with EGFR-TKIs high survival compared to EGFR-TKIs alone in patients with EGFR-mutated oligo-organ metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)

Laboratory METHODS :
• Multicenter, randomized, phase III trial (Northern Radiation Oncology Group of China-002)
• 118 patients enrolled between April 2016 and February 2022
• patients in the TKI + lung cancer group received 60 Gy cancer to primary tumors and positive regional lymph nodes
• PFS was the first endpoint, with OS and treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) as second endpoints

RESULTS:
• High The TKI + lung cancer group had significantly better outcomes:
• High PFS: 17.1 months vs 10.6 months (TKI alone); HR 0.57, P = .004
• High OS: 34.4 months vs 26.2 months (TKI alone); HR 0.62, P = .029.
•  local control but high incidence of severe TRAEs (11.9% vs 5.1%).”
