“Day 8: The Global disparity in childhood cancer treatment

Today, we confront a harsh reality— a significant global disparity in childhood cancer treatment. In high-income countries, up to 80% of children survive cancer. In low-income countries like Nigeria, survival rates are very low – as low as 20%, sometimes. This gap is indeed staggering.

I believe that children everywhere deserve the same fighting chance, but the challenges of late diagnosis, limited access to resources, lack of advanced medical technology, and inadequate specialized care leave millions of children in Nigeria and other Low and Middle Income Countries vulnerable.

But then, we must not let geography continue to determine the fate of children which is why I’m committing to pushing for equal access to care and quality treatment for every child, no matter where they live.
