Phuong Ly-Gallagher: This hits home for me
Phuong Ly-Gallagher, Research Advocate Training and Support (RATS) Manager at Fight Colorectal Cancer, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This hits home for me.
As an AAPI caring for my parents’ medical needs, I am their primary translator.
Hospital stays are especially difficult because they usually allow only one person to be with the patient, and then only during visiting hours.
That means mom can’t be there with dad if I am needed to translate.
While the care teams assure that they have translation services available, I know that the reality is they are not effectively used – this I know from personal experience.”
