Isabel Mestres: Major milestone achieved through C/Can’s efforts in Georgia

Isabel Mestres shared on LinkedIn:

“I‘m thrilled to announce a major milestone achieved through C/Can’s efforts in Georgia. The C/Can model truly works!

Under the leadership of Hon. Mikheil Sarjveladze, Minister of Health, we are ensuring the safe storage, preparation, and distribution of oncology medicines. What does this mean for patients?

Georgian cancer patients will now receive their medicines directly at medical facilities, eliminating the need to purchase and transport them from pharmacies. This allows patients to receive improved treatment services and focus on their recovery.

Our partnership with the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia has been pivotal. We conducted a thorough review of cancer treatment regulations and visited the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) for invaluable insights.

Key achievements include:

  • Establishing pharmacies within medical centres.
  • Enhancing quality control protocols.
  • Ensuring a multidisciplinary team approach.
  • Providing comprehensive training for oncology personnel.

A special thank you to Dr. Tamar Gabunia, First Deputy Minister of Health,  Mrs. Irina Javakhadze, Head of the Policy Department, MoH and Lela Sulaberidze, Head of Strategic Development Department, Moh for their invaluable support. And to Natia Verdzadze, Sophie Bussmann-Kemdjo and Rolando Camacho from the City Cancer Challenge team.

The progress we make today is building a future where every cancer patient receives the highest standard of care, regardless of who they are and where they live.”
