Lesley-Anne Long: Coming back from the almost dead sounds very melodramatic but it’s what I felt when I arrived home, this day two years ago after my ‘adventure’ with stage 4 cancer, sepsis, and pneumonia.
Lesley-Anne Long, President and CEO at GBCHealth, recently shared on LinkedIn:
“Coming back from the almost dead sounds very melodramatic (and I do love a bit of drama) but it’s what I felt when I arrived home, this day two years ago after my ‘adventure’ with stage 4 cancer, sepsis, and pneumonia.
Looking rather like a bedraggled version of the velveteen rabbit (though with less hair and definitely not as cute), I inched my way forward in learning to walk, take one stair (and then the next) at a time, and then (eventually) venturing out socially (that took much longer), all the while feeling stripped of my defenses. Four pillars supported me over these last two years – my wonderful husband Marc, my incredible sons (Henry, Fergus, and Arthur) my heart friends (you know who you are), and my amazing team at work (including my board).
The GBCHealth ‘celebrate’ event in New York last month marked many milestones, and it was a joy to be there with some of the most important and impressive people I’ve had the chance to work with over the last few years. Thank you to everyone who joined in our celebration of 25+ years of inspiring partnerships that truly made a mark in global health. It’s been a privilege to be a part of that journey and I can’t wait to see what happens next as we move our work to Africa. Love, Lesley-Anne.”
