Partha Basu: Overcoming Barriers to Cancer Screening in Latin American and the Caribbean
Partha Basu, Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer/World Health Organization, shared a recent article on LinkedIn:
“Our article published in the International Journal of Cancer (IJC) in 2024, Assessment of barriers to cancer screening and interventions implemented to overcome these barriers in 27 Latin American and Caribbean countries, has been selected for a special online Virtual Issue in recognition of World Cancer Day (4th Feb) by the journal.”

Dr. Partha Basu is Head of the Early Detection, Prevention, and Infections Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer/World Health Organization (IARC/WHO) in France. He holds an MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology, a post-doctoral fellowship in Gynecological Oncology, and a PhD in Clinical Oncology.
Before joining IARC in 2015, he led the Department of Gynecological Oncology at the National Cancer Institute in India. Dr. Basu’s research is primarily focused on cervical cancer prevention, endorsement of a single dose of the HPV vaccine, and the recommendation of thermal ablation for treating cervical precancers.
