Robin Vicken Ohannessian: New Insights on Telehealth Research in France – 20 Years of Data Unveiled
Robin Vicken Ohannessian, Founder and CEO of Vickino, shared a post on LinkedIn about recent paper he and colleagues co-authored, published on Mary Ann Liebert.
“New Insights on Telehealth Research in France – 20 Years of Data Unveiled.
Despite the global boom in telemedicine, France has lacked a comprehensive overview of its telehealth research landscape, until now. I am very proud to share with you the latest publication of our Vickino Institute of Telehealth sponsored by Les Entreprises de Télésanté – LET and conducted with my fabulous co-authors Julie Salomon, Jean-Pascal Piermé and Paul Martin-Gousset. Thank you to all of them.
Our new bibliometric study offers the first-ever 20-year analysis of telehealth research in France (2004–2023), using data from 6 open-access sources including PubMed, Clinical Trials, and the French Ministry of Health.
Key findings:
- 1,254 publications on telehealth in France (2.5% of global telehealth output)
- 279 research protocols listed on ClinicalTrials.gov, peaking in 2021
- €15M invested in 41 research projects by the Ministry of Health (1.1% of total funded projects)
- Public hospitals led the way in funding (66%), with industry contributing 18%
- Telehealth research grew steadily until it spiked during COVID-19 then declined in 2022–2023.
The study highlights a critical gap: funding for telehealth research remains limited and needs urgent scaling to meet future healthcare demands. This is not only the first study of its kind in France, but also across Europe, and maybe at a global scale as well.
Whether you’re in healthcare, research, or policy, these findings can guide smarter funding decisions, research priorities, and digital health strategies.
If you’re interested in telehealth, public health, or research innovation, I’d love to hear your thoughts.”
