Rana McKay Professor of Medicine and Urology at UC San Diego Health Co-leader of the GU Oncology Program at Moores Cancer Center As Co-Chair of VIRO, Dr. Rana McKay (University of California, San Diego) opened the congress with her talk on  “Future Directions: Emerging Agents and Combinations.” She emphasized the momentum in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) research, highlighting how novel immunotherapies, targeted drugs, and rational combination strategies are reshaping patient care. Dr. McKay underscored the importance of personalized, biomarker-driven approaches and global collaboration, aiming to optimize survival and quality of life worldwide.

Spotlight on Maryam Soleimani

Dr. Soleimani is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia Division of Medical Oncology and a Medical Oncologist at BC Cancer, Vancouver Centre.

At the Global Voices in Renal Oncology (VIRO) Virtual Congress 2025, Dr. Soleimani will present on “VHL and Kidney Cancer: The Role of a Specialized VHL Clinic.” Her presentation will highlight:

• The establishment and impact of the first comprehensive VHL Clinic in Canada at BC Cancer, which Dr. Soleimani founded in 2022.
• The multidisciplinary care model and coordinated management strategies tailored for VHL patients.
• Advances in clinical and translational research through the Canadian VHL Clinical and Research Consortium.
• How specialized VHL clinics improve early detection, surveillance, and personalized treatment to optimize outcomes in VHL-associated renal cancer.
