Highlights from the 2nd Annual Scientific Symposium at the James P. Allison Institute

The 2nd Annual Scientific Symposium at the James P. Allison Institute took place on October 10, 2024.

Symposium

It took place at the TMC3 Collaborative Building in Houston, TX.

Themed “Immunotherapy in Space and Time: The Tumor Environment,” the event gathered world-renowned scientists to discuss the latest advancements in immunotherapy.

Opening remarks were delivered by MD Anderson President Peter WT Pisters, and James P. Allison Institute Director James P. Allison.

The symposium featured presentations from leading experts, including keynote speakers Jennifer A. Doudna, Philip Greenberg, and E. John Wherry, who shared insights from their pioneering research in immunobiology and its implications for cancer treatment. Attendees engaged in inspiring discussions that emphasized the critical role of the tumor environment in shaping immunotherapeutic strategies.

Allison Institute Day, a poster session with prizes for top trainee work, a Q&A session with Nobel Laureates Dr. Jim Allison and Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi, and a $5 million gift from the Wintermann Foundation. The day concluded with a Fireside chat on how the Allison Institute is transforming the landscape of biomedical research and accelerating advances to a cure for cancer.
