Sendurai Mani: The Power of ‘No Phone Use in School’ Policy in Rhode Island

Sendurai Mani, Dean’s Chair of Translational Oncology at Brown University and Founder and Advisor at Iylon Precision Oncology, shared on LinkedIn:

“The Power of ‘No Phone Use in School’ Policy in Rhode Island: Recently, as part of the Leadership program arranged by Leadership Rhode Island enriching experience, I had the opportunity to visit Central Falls High School, Central Falls, RI, with my fellow participants. The principal, Mr. Robert McCarthy, and his team introduced the “No Phone Use in School” policy.

One remarkable impactful change the school is observing in response to this new rule is that students are engaging in face-to-face conversations and playing physical games. The kids seem healthier physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This positive change suggests that this model could be adopted in other schools. It might help children grow strong mentally, physically, and emotionally and will help them engage in class with the teacher and with one another.”
