Tunji Alausa: Pleased to attend NACA Nigeria’s event on Sustainable Approaches to HIV Response in Nigeria
Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare for the Federal Republic of Nigeria shared on X:
“To conclude my trip, I was pleased to attend NACA Nigeria’s event on Sustainable Approaches to HIV Response in Nigeria.
This year’s IAC – the International AIDS Conference theme, ‘Putting People First,’ aligns perfectly with H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda and our Sector-Wide Approach (SWaP), which emphasizes innovative and sustainable solutions.
Our focus on sustainability in the healthcare sector and the HIV space involves empowering government-mandated structures to fulfill their responsibilities, rather than creating parallel systems.
Implementing partners will provide technical support to these structures.
As stated during the inauguration of Nigeria’s Pediatric AIDS and PMTCT Acceleration Committee earlier this month, the Federal Ministry of Health, NIGERIA is committed to:
1. Advancing the global alliance plan to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and pediatric HIV.
2. Enhancing capacity for domestic production of HIV commodities to meet local needs, support neighboring West African countries, and sustain the national HIV response.
3. Stimulating the local economy through industrialization.
With the recent executive order removing duties on pharmaceutical products and machinery, we will continue to encourage local production and improve health outcomes for Nigerians.
A comprehensive public health approach is vital to addressing legal, policy, and structural issues, particularly for key populations in Nigeria.
As emphasized in my discussions with PEPFAR and UNAIDS Global, No one will be denied services based on their sexual orientation.
While we uphold our laws, we are committed to ensuring that everyone, including those in custodial centers, receives necessary health services.
I urge all stakeholders, both domestic and international, to partner with us in transforming our health system, starting with the HIV program. Nigeria is open for business.
