Welcome Note From The President of The Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) at Global Cancer Movement
In the inaugural Global Cancer Movement event by OncoDaily, held virtually from December 6-8, 2024, Professor Daiming Fan, President of the China Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), Asia Oncology Society (AOS), and World Association for Integrative Oncology, delivers a powerful address on global advancements in colorectal cancer care. This event underscores the importance of innovation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange in tackling one of the most challenging cancers.
Ladies and gentlemen, good morning, good afternoon and good evening. It is my privilege to address this global cancer movement, challenging the status quo in colorectal cancer. First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Professor Gevorg Tamamyan, editor-in-chief of Oncobilly, for your invitation and the organization.
Secondly, as the president of China Anti-Cancer Association, CACA, Asia Oncology Society, AOS, and the World Association for Integrative Oncology, I would like to congratulate on the successful event on behalf of our three organizations. Thank you for your contribution and dedication. CACA was founded in 1984.
It is the largest organization in China with more than 820,000 individual members and 228 professional societies. WAIO is a new world organization dedicated on global cancer control with the new concept of holistic integrative oncology. It was launched in 2023 and held the first general assembly in 2024.
Currently, WAIO owns 120 members from 70 countries. Last month, we successfully held the 2024 Chinese Congress on Holistic Integrative Oncology in Xi’an, China. The Congress attracted over 60,000 participants with 72 million online visitors.
As a Congress chairman, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the global experts from more than 100 countries. During the Congress, we are proud to be strategic partners with OncoDaily. By signing the cooperation agreement, we are honored to work together to advance holistic integrative oncology and enhance global collaboration.
Colorectal cancer is one of the major causes of cancer-related deaths globally. Its rising incidence, coupled with its complex pathogenesis and varying treatment responses, presents significant challenges for healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers. However, this also serves as a reminder of the critical importance of our work in this field.
In the past, China regarded colorectal cancer as a single entity, just like also in the world. But that perception was flawed. For example, the prognosis for right-sided colon cancer is generally poor, while it improves as we move from the left colon to the rectum.
This variation becomes clear when we classify the disease into three distinctive types, right colon, left colon, and rectal cancer, each showing different patterns in both basic research and clinical observations. This distinct has long been overlooked in the past. Here, I would like to highlight a significant advancement in colorectal cancer surgery in China.
Our Chinese team developed a new minimally invasive surgical technique, natural orifice specimen extraction surgery, we call it NOSIS, which has been rapidly accepted and utilized around the world. During this virtual meeting, we will invite seven experts from CACA to share their achievements and their perspectives on colorectal cancer. I hope these topics will give you a picture of the current status and the challenges of colorectal cancer control in China.
The cancer burden has crossed the national borders, becoming a universal concern. As the population ages, the cancer incidence and the mortality will continue to increase. Thus, the future path to fighting against cancer requires international cooperation.
No discipline can develop behind a closed door. Only communication can generate ideas and thoughts. Today, we are privileged to witness an online gathering of global leading experts to share and exchange their latest achievements of colorectal cancer prevention, treatment, and research.
I believe this three-day virtual meeting will provide you an informative platform to learn each other. Last but not least, I wish the global movement a great success, and I am looking forward to fruitful collaborations with OncoDaily. Thank you.
Thank you very much, OncoDaily.
