The submission deadline for the “Cancer Care in Europe 2024” Special Series, hosted by OncoDaily Medical Journal, is August 30, 2025. Co-chaired by renowned oncology experts Giuseppe Curigliano, Piotr Wysocki, and Dario Trapani, this series aims to provide critical insights into cancer control efforts across Europe, focusing on key areas such as:

Meet the Chairs
Giuseppe Curigliano
Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Milano and President-Elect of ESMO (2027–2028)
Dr. Giuseppe Curigliano is a renowned oncologist specializing in early drug development and breast cancer care. He currently directs the Early Drug Development Division at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, Italy. Dr. Curigliano is a global leader in personalized medicine, focusing on the development of targeted therapies and biomarker discovery to improve treatment for solid tumors, particularly breast cancer.
He has played a pivotal role in shaping clinical practice and research in oncology as the Editor-in-Chief of ESMO Open and through his leadership in the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), where he is the President-Elect for the term 2027–2028. He has chaired ESMO’s Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee and co-chaired the ESMO Breast Cancer Congress. Dr. Curigliano is also deeply involved in fostering oncology education and is a mentor to numerous young oncologists globally.
Piotr Wysocki
Head of Clinical Oncology at University Hospital and Head of the Faculty of Oncology at Jagiellonian University, Poland
Prof. Piotr Wysocki is a distinguished medical oncologist and academic leader in clinical oncology. He serves as the Head of the Clinical Oncology Department at University Hospital and the Head of the Faculty of Oncology at Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow, Poland. His clinical expertise spans breast, gynecologic, and genitourinary cancers, with a particular focus on innovative chemotherapy strategies, especially for advanced, treatment-resistant solid tumors.
Prof. Wysocki’s contributions extend to policy and advocacy, serving as an advisor to the Polish Ministry of Health, where he actively shapes national cancer strategies. He is also a past President of the Polish Society of Clinical Oncology and currently serves as Chair of the European Regional Council of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). His work has had a profound influence on oncology education and research, both in Poland and internationally.
Dario Trapani
Medical Oncologist at the European Institute of Oncology and Assistant Professor at the University of Milan
Dr. Dario Trapani is a leading medical oncologist and global advocate for cancer care. He currently practices at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan and holds an Assistant Professor position at the University of Milan. His research and clinical work primarily focus on breast cancer, early drug development, and global oncology, with a particular emphasis on improving access to cancer treatments in low- and middle-income countries.
Dr. Trapani is an influential leader in global oncology policy, having served as the first ESMO-seconded consultant to the World Health Organization’s Cancer Control team. He currently chairs the Cancer Medicines Committee at ESMO, where he advocates for equitable access to cancer therapies. Dr. Trapani is also deeply involved in promoting value-based cancer care globally and mentoring young oncologists in underserved regions to enhance cancer care delivery worldwide.
