“The truth is young people do not want to vape” – Simran Prasad
Tracey O’Brien, NSW Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute NSW, posted on LinkedIn:
“‘The truth is young people do not want to vape. They may feel pressure that it’s something that’s cool in a social environment, but there are no benefits to vaping.’
These are the powerful words of Simran Prasad, an incredibly brave, articulate and inspiring 21 year old former vaper, who today shared a clear and strong message to young people better than anyone.
It was a privilege to stand alongside Simran, Minister for Health Ryan Park and NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant, as we celebrated the roll out of Pave, the Cancer Institute NSW’s new vaping cessation app, and the launch of the next phase of our anti-vaping campaign – a campaign that after it’s initial launch last year led to close to 40,000 young people in NSW attempting to quit vaping or seriously think about quitting.
A huge amount of research, evaluation and testing took place to develop these two fantastic initiatives, but without the hundreds of young people like Simran, who frankly and honestly shared their stories, perspectives and advice, none of this would have been possible.
If you vape, please reach out for help. Chat to your GP, call Quitline on 13 78 48 and download our new Pave app today.
