Andre M.N. Renzaho: A great event for African-Australians on cancer awareness

Andre M.N. Renzaho, Distinguished Professor and Professor of Humanitarian and Development Studies, School of Medicine at Western Sydney University, made the following post on LinkedIn:

“A great event for African-Australians on cancer awareness. Please do not miss this great, family-friendly event. The latest data by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare suggest that, for refugees and humanitarian entrants, overall cardio-
vascular diseases, cancer and other neoplasms, injury and poisoning, and neurological disorders are the top causes of death for both males and females.

Among children aged 1–14 years the main causes of death are accidental drowning and submersion, land transport accidents and leukemia (for refugees and humanitarian entrants); and brain cancer, land transport accidents, and leukemia in other permanent migrants. Among migrant young people (15–24 years) the leading causes of death are suicide, land transport accidents, accidental drowning and submersion, accidental poisoning, and assault. So, cancer is one of the top five leading causes of death in migrant children and adults. This event is timely.”
