Sachin H. Jain: People who lead with personal integrity stand apart
Sachin H. Jain, President and CEO, SCAN Group and Health Plan, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Early in my career, I was being interviewed for a job at Merck. I was a bit on the fence about whether the job was the right job for me. As a Boston-trained physician in the early 2000s, I had never really thought previously about working in the pharmaceutical industry (they called it the ‘dark side’).
At some point in the conversation, I asked the interviewer, Michael Rosenblatt, how he thinks about mentorship:
‘Our relationship will likely outlive both our times at Merck, so I’m always going to be thinking about what’s right for you first and the company second.’
Mic drop.
It was a remarkable statement, one that instantly convinced me that whether this was the right job or not, this was the right boss for me.
And years later, the statement rings true. Mike and I worked together at Merck for 3 years—a time far too short—but have maintained a friendship that has persisted far beyond. And he’s honored his original statement in thinking about what’s right for me at every step of the way.
In an era when people are often more transactional than relational, people like Mike who lead with personal integrity stand apart—and are more likely to build great teams and followership.

What’s something unexpected someone has said to you that made you want to work for them?”
