The Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada now joins the Canadian Cancer Society in withdrawing their endorsement of the 2018 breast cancer screening guidelines – Dense Breasts Canada

Quoting Dense Breasts Canada’s post on LinkedIn:

“This is huge news. There are over 9000 nurse practitioners in Canada. Breast screening guidelines made by the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care are supposedly designed to give healthcare providers guidance to follow for the well-being of patients.

Well, we know the guidelines that recommend not screening at 40, not offering additional screening for women with dense breasts, not doing self-exams, etc, DO NOT promote the wellbeing of Canadians.

We thank the Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada for taking action. Thank you to our medical advisor Dr Paula Gordon for your presentations to NPAC outlining the flawed and outdated science used by the Task Force.

The Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada now joins the Canadian Cancer Society in withdrawing their endorsement of the 2018 breast cancer screening guidelines. By withdrawing their endorsements, these organizations are not just highlighting flaws in the guidelines, but also championing the cause of science and women’s health.

Their courage in standing up against guidelines that don’t serve the best interests of Canadians underscores the importance of evidence-based healthcare decisions. Thank you!”
