Shrenik Shah: The Vicious Circle of Career Inertia
Shrenik Shah, Patient Ambassador and Moderator of Fridays with Shrenik Live webinar at the Indian Cancer Society, posted on LinkedIn:
“I’m too old.”
“I’m too young.”
“I don’t have the right experience.”
I’ve heard these in every leadership session I’ve taken.
And not from people who lacked talent.
But from people stuck in a loop.
The Vicious Circle of Career Inertia:
→ You feel stuck
→ You start doubting
→ Doubt makes risk look bigger
→ Fear grows louder
→ So you settle for less
It’s not about age or experience.
It’s about belief.
But how do you believe when self-doubt feels louder than reality?
1. Borrow belief.
Until you find your own, borrow it from someone who sees your potential — a coach, mentor, even a past win you’ve forgotten.
2. Rename fear.
Don’t call it fear of failure.
Call it the courage to try something new that’s a mindset shift, not a motivational quote.
3. Zoom out.
Ask: Will this matter in 3 years? Or is it discomfort disguised as a dead-end?
The biggest breakthroughs in leadership don’t come from external skills.
They come from internal clarity.
If you’re reading this and wondering if now is the right time, you’ve already taken the first step.
Let’s talk about the next one.”
