Debbie Drell: My last day working for the National Organization for Rare Disorders
Debbie Drell, Former Senior Director of Membership at the National Organization for Rare Disorders, recently posted on LinkedIn:
“Today is my last day working for the National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc. (NORD). It has been an incredible ~7 years working for an extraordinary organization dedicated to the 30 million Americans living with 7,000 unique rare diseases.
NORD is in the business of saving lives!
In the late 1980s, NORD helped three pulmonary hypertension patients and a sister find each other… and these four women would go on to start the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA).
In the 1990s, PHA fueled research and drug development to the tune of millions of dollars! Their work lead to the development of a treatment approved by the FDA the same year my sister Alex Castro nearly died from her PH.
It has been an honor and privilege to serve the rare disease community, especially the leaders of rare disease nonprofit organizations who started out sitting at their own kitchen tables, fighting for their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
I will share more on my next professional adventures when I can (and over on LinkedIn!).
Until then, I will continue to be NORD’s biggest cheerleaders!”
