A new hollow fiber bioreactor (HFB) design featuring microscale fiber uniformity has enabled the creation of centimeter-scale, perfused chicken muscle tissue with minimal necrosis and improved structure.
Key innovations:
- Leak-free perfusion enhances cell activity
- Uniform nutrient/oxygen delivery via closely packed semipermeable fibers
- Microanchors guide cell alignment for realistic muscle morphology
- Active perfusion boosts protein expression and sarcomere formation
- Robotic assembly demonstrates scalability
