Asif Chaudry: Honoured to participate in The Lancet Oncology Commission on Cancer in the Commonwealth

Asif Chaudry, Oesophageal Cancer Surgeon and Gastric Cancer Surgeon at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“An honour to participate in the ‘The Lancet Oncology Commission of Cancer in the Commonwealth’ with fellow Commissioners, researchers and collaborators.

Hosted and initiated by Baroness Patricia Scotland, Secretary General of The Commonwealth at Marlborough House, exceptional leadership from chair Rifat Atun, Professor of Global Health Systems at Harvard, Bhawna Sirohi and Mary Gospodarowicz, David Collingridge with support from Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of WHO.

The Commonwealth is a voluntary collective of 56 diverse nations, comprising 2.8 billion people globally.

We aim to gauge the burden of cancer, disparities and challenges, identify commonalities to collaborate in its prevention, treatment and eradication through structures within The Commonwealth and member states from the highest level to assist the individuals afflicted.

The commission includes extensive research work streams underpinning a call to action for policy change and tangible solutions such as the possible establishment of a ‘Commonwealth Cancer Grid’ of academic/clinical hubs and networks, Cancer Observatory and Commonwealth Cancer Investment Fund together with harnessing innovation and technology to leapfrog development.”
