Amil Družić: United in Our Messages, Unique in Our Stories

Amil Družić, Oncology and Radiotherapy Resident at the Clinical Center University of Sarajevo, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“World Cancer Day: United in Our Messages, Unique in Our Stories 🌍

February 4th, on World Cancer Day, I am reminded of why I chose this path and why I am so deeply committed to the fight against cancer. Since becoming an Ambassador for the European Code Against Cancer in 2018 and starting my residency in Oncology and Radiotherapy at the Clinical Center University of Sarajevo Oncology Clinic, my passion for this field has only grown stronger.

Cancer touches everyone in some way—whether through personal experience, the journey of a loved one, or the stories we hear as healthcare professionals. The message of this year’s WHO poster resonates deeply with me: “United in our messages, unique in our stories.”

Each patient I meet has a unique story, a unique battle, and a unique hope. Yet, we are all united in our shared goal: to prevent, detect, and treat cancer more effectively. The European Code Against Cancer provides 12 actionable steps we can all take to reduce our risk, and I am proud to continue spreading this vital message.

As a member of the European Cancer Organisation (ECO) Young Cancer Professionals Group, I am inspired by the collective efforts of young professionals across Europe who are dedicated to advancing cancer care, research, and policy. Together, we are shaping the future of oncology and ensuring that the voices of the next generation are heard.

On this day, let’s remember:

  • Prevention is powerful—lifestyle changes can reduce cancer risk.
  • Early detection saves lives—regular screenings are crucial.
  • Research and innovation are key to better treatments and outcomes.
  • Support matters—no one should face cancer alone.

I am honored to stand alongside patients, caregivers, researchers, and advocates in this fight. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s share our stories, amplify our messages, and work toward a world where cancer no longer devastates lives.

What’s your story? How are you contributing to the fight against cancer? Let’s unite and inspire each other.”
