Bente Mikkelsen: This is the latest edition of the IARC handbook series and covers the topic of oral cancer prevention
Bente Mikkelsen, Director in the division of UHC/Communicable and Noncommunicable diseases, World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Looking forward to collaborating with our IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization colleagues to launch the IARC Handbooks on Cancer Prevention: Volume 19 Oral Cancer Prevention.
This is the latest edition of the IARC handbook series and covers the topic of oral cancer prevention. We know that globally there were around 377 713 new cases of oral cancer in 2020, and 177 757 deaths. The handbook provides a first-time evaluation of primary and secondary prevention interventions for oral cancer and will be an important resource in tackling smokeless tobacco and areca nut use, a major risk factor for oral cancer and public health issue prevalent in South-East Asian and Western Pacific regions. The handbook is an important contribution to the implementation of the WHO Global oral health action plan 2023-2030.
Join us for the launch event, organized in collaboration between WHO and IARC, where we will bring together public health experts, researchers, clinicians and survivors.”
