A New Milestone in Nuclear Medicine in Armenia
Armine Badeyan, about the latest advancements in diagnostic tools in Armenia:
“For the first time in Armenia, our center successfully synthesized the radiopharmaceutical Fluoroethyltyrosine (18F-FET) using the Belgian IBA Synthera® V2 synthesis module and reagents from the German company ABX advanced biochemical compounds GmbH.
Patients with brain tumors who have undergone radiation or surgical treatments will now have the opportunity to undergo FET PET/CT imaging. This cutting-edge diagnostic tool enables the identification of residual tissue, if present.
The synthesized radiopharmaceutical will facilitate the detection of brain changes and the diagnosis of pathological lesions.
This marks the 4th radiopharmaceutical produced in Armenia, following the efforts of the Center for Radioisotope Production.
The first synthesis of 18F-FET and the initial FET PET/CT imaging were conducted in collaboration with our colleagues from the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology under the Ministry of Health of Russia. Radiochemist-engineers Denis Nevzorov and Natalya Nesterova, along with radiologist Pavel Tulin, generously shared their expertise and experience with our specialists.”
