Zero Abandonment supports young cancer survivor – CANCaRe Africa
CANCaRe Africa posted the following on LinkedIn:
“Voice of the families, Post #25 Amutuhaire Demas and mother.
Amutuhaire Demas is a 4-year-old boy. He is from Rukungiri which is 112 km away from the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. His complaints started with abdominal swelling which was getting worse and worse. He was first seen in a district clinic and thereafter referred to the larger hospital in Mbarara.
Upon admission in Mbarara, he was diagnosed with cancer, Burkitt lymphoma, and treated with chemotherapy. His father and mother are casual laborers. Amutuhaire is staying with his grandmother who had asked his aunt to take him to the hospital. She was worried about how to keep him on treatment because of her tight work schedule and family demands at home.
They were relieved with the support from ‘Zero Abandonment,’ which made it easier for them to manage his treatment appointments.
Demas has now completed treatment and has no sign of the disease.
The whole family and medical team is happy for him.”
