Get ready to be inspired by Maria – Richi Childhood Cancer Foundation
Richi Childhood Cancer Foundation shared the following on LinkedIn:
“Get ready to be inspired by Maria, this month’s Faces of Hope at the Richi House—a true embodiment of strength, resilience, and heart.
‘I feel very lucky that I get to be my kids’ mom,’ declares Maria. Despite the tough journey of witnessing her child’s battle with cancer, Maria has emerged as a person full of gratitude and experience. ‘I feel very lucky to have met so many other brain tumor moms and dads, who have shared their experiences, their kids, their joy, and their sorrows. Many of them are now like family,’ she continues.
Maria doesn’t idealize her experience as a mom of a child affected by a brain tumor. ‘There are many difficult parts of this journey. Life changes for the entire family in so many ways. There is grief for the unexpected changes,’ she says. Yet, her positivity often shines through. ‘There is immense joy in the little things, and there are no little things. When you pay attention, the little things become big things,’ Maria shares.
Her favorite thing about the Richi House is ‘seeing the adolescents and young adults experience the unspoken, absolute understanding that they so desperately need,’ she says. ‘I think having a place where we can be ourselves, among others who have experienced similar journeys, is crucial for all of us. It gives us the opportunity for connection, healing, sharing, planning, and support. It is so important for all of our families, and we are all so grateful for the chance to grow together.’
The monthly sessions she attends with her child, Ashlynn, are something they both look forward to. “Richi House gives me hope for our collective kids’ futures, knowing they will always have a place and a space where they can go to be with friends—people who will look out for them.”
At the Richi House, we feel incredibly lucky to have Maria and Ashlynn join us every month, and we can’t wait to share many more incredible moments with their family.”
