Wafik El-Deiry: The Relaunching of the Rhode Island Oncology Society After Two Decades
The Rhode Island Oncology Society (RIOS), formerly known as the Society of Rhode Island Clinical Oncologists, was founded in 1994.
This establishment occurred just one year after the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) launched its State/Regional Affiliate Program, making RIOS one of ASCO’s oldest state affiliates. The society has since played a crucial role in addressing the challenges faced by oncologists in Rhode Island and advocating for high-quality oncology care within the state.
RIOS has recently undergone a significant relaunch after two decades, marking a revitalization of its mission and activities.
Wafik El-Deiry shared about its relaunch on LinkedIn:
“Great to see the relaunch of the Rhode Island Oncology Society after two decades.
RIOS has new energy, good will, inclusiveness, and an intent to impact on education and advocacy work. It’s a new day for oncology in Rhode Island and we were grateful that ASCO President Robin Zon addressed RIOS at its meeting after the 2024 R.I. Best of ASCO event.”
