Rob Winn: From Leukemia Diagnosis to Remission and Advocacy
Rob Winn, Director of VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn.
“‘Two weeks to live,’ to a thriving advocate.
In 2022, Richmond native Mary Simmons was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and told she had less than two weeks to live. Seeking a second opinion, she came to VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she met Dr. Keri Maher and found hope through a clinical trial.
Three years later, Mary is in remission. She calls her Massey care team ‘family and now works alongside us as a Massey Cancer Champion, sharing her story to inspire others and advocate for cancer research and clinical trials.
Mary’s journey is proof that clinical trials save lives and that hope, perseverance, and expert care can change the story.
You can also hear more from Mary in our Real Cancer Talk podcast on Apple Podcast, Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeart Radio.”
