Lisa Lacasse: It is The Time to Defend Our Country’s Commitment to Biomedical Research
Lisa Lacasse, President of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Every major advancement in cancer treatment over the past 50 years has been made possible by sustained federal investment in biomedical research. These investments save lives, support thousands of jobs, and drive economic growth. In Maine alone, NIH funding supports nearly 1,500 jobs and generates $286 million in economic activity.
I take pride in knowing lawmakers from my home state of Maine, including Sen. Collins, have stood up against reckless and harmful cuts to affordable health care. I remain hopeful they will continue to prioritize the health of Mainers with cancer by opposing cuts to lifesaving prevention programs and cutting-edge cancer research.
More than 2 million Americans, including more than 11,000 Mainers, are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in 2025. That’s why now is the time to defend and strengthen our country’s commitment to biomedical research critical to future cures.
Now is the time to act. American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) will continue urging lawmakers continue to fight for the future of cancer innovation.
Read my recent op-ed in The Portland Press Herald urging Congress to reject proposed cuts to lifesaving cancer research and prevention programs.”
