Meet Dr. Justin Taylor and Skye Montoya, a dynamic mentor-mentee duo – Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center posted on LinkedIn:
“Meet Dr. Justin Taylor and Skye Montoya, a dynamic mentor-mentee duo! As an undergraduate nursing major, Montoya recognized she preferred the research that went into Clinical Care. Now, as a Doctoral Student at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in cancer biology, she has discovered her passion for the science behind medicine. “I realized pretty quickly that I was more enthused with the science behind my work,” she recalled. “I was really interested in the ‘why’ of medicine.”
In March 2021, Montoya joined Dr. Taylor’s research lab. She has worked on Blood Cancer mechanisms and translational patient therapies, publishing two papers in prestigious science journals, such as Science Magazine.
Montoya, a recipient of the Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA for Individual Predoctoral Fellows Award from the National Cancer Institute, aspires to an academic research career. Dr. Taylor uses his connections to alert her to job openings at top labs, introduce her to other scientists and encourage her to attend national scientific meetings. Learn about this mentor-mentee relationship at Sylvester and Montoya and Dr. Taylor’s collaborative publications.”
