Strengthening Cancer Care in Wajir County – National Cancer Institute of Kenya

“NCI-K Meets Wajir County CHMTs
12th June, 2025 – Wajir
The National Cancer Institute of Kenya convened a consultative meeting with the County Health Management Team (CHMT) of
Wajir County, led by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Hassan Abass.The meeting focused on evaluating the current status of cancer prevention and early detection, cancer pathology and laboratory medicamine, cancer treatment, palliative care and survivorship, cancer advocacy, partnerships and Coordination, cancer information, registration and research in the county, and the level of implementation n line with the National Cancer Control Strategy (NCCS) 2023–2027.
During the engagement, the Institute reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with Wajir County to strengthen health systems for cancer control across the continuum of care.The county boasts a committed health workforce and substantial physical infrastructure. With targeted investments in oncology equipment, capacity building, and integrated service delivery systems, Wajir is strategically positioned to expand and improve access to quality cancer care.”
