Alica Mozolikova: The Forbes Women’s Summit in Prague

Today, I attended the Forbes Women’s Summit in Prague – an event I have been wanting to participate in for years, though something always seemed more pressing. I felt incredibly excited to finally be there and to be surrounded by so many inspirational, open-minded, and successful women.

These are ladies who have found their voices along the way and had the courage to speak up about things others might only suspect. The key lessons I have been reminded of today are:

i. Clearly and authoritatively demand what you want. Say, “I will do it because I am capable.”

ii. In male-dominated environments, we often try to imitate masculine characteristics. Keep your heart soft and protect your feminine traits, as they make us unique and powerful.

iii. As I was taught at St. Andrews, it is not about being aggressive in making your point; it is about being resilient. Education is not preparation for life; it’s life itself.

iv. The average pay gap between men and women in OECD countries is still 13%, and in the Czech Republic, it is around 17%.

v. Get yourself a mentor, and also be a mentor to someone else. Knowledge only becomes meaningful when shared. It’s a wonderful process, and so is the act of helping someone grow into their confidence.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore women. I believe we are wonderful creatures and very inspiring human beings. If you ever have the chance to travel on public transport, take a moment to look around at how much unique beauty, strength, and perseverance you will see. Even in those women who may not have as powerful a voice as yours.
