Shahrin Ahmed Raises Awareness on Uterine Cancer in Women Over 35
Shahrin Ahmed, Medical Specialist at Canadian Cancer Society, shared a post on X:
“Women over 35 should be aware of uterine cancer.
The female reproductive system is most susceptible to uterine cancer. The cells of the uterus are the starting point for a malignant tumor. Invading or growing into nearby tissue and causing destruction is what makes something malignant. It is capable of spreading or metastasizing to other parts of the body.
Sometimes, cells in the uterus change and fail to grow or behave normally. Endometriosis is one example of non-cancerous or benign conditions that can be caused by these changes. Non-cancerous tumors like uterine fibroids can also be caused by them.
Atypical endometrial hyperplasia is often associated with precancerous conditions in the uterus.
Cancer can be caused by changes to cells in the uterus in certain situations. There are two primary forms of uterine cancer. Endometrial carcinoma is the most common type of uterine cancer, and it starts with cells in the uterine lining (called the endometrium). Muscle, fat, bone, and fibrous tissue are the supporting tissues of the uterus where uterine sarcoma can develop.
Carcinosarcoma is a third cancer that can develop in the uterus. Both carcinomas and sarcomas are present in its features. Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) is an uncommon type of uterine cancer that can arise.
Preventing womb cancer is not always possible, but there are a few things you can do to lower your risk. This involves maintaining a healthy weight and utilizing certain types of contraception for an extended period of time.”
