Saddened to Share the Passing of Associate Professor Josh McCarroll – Children’s Cancer Institute

“Children’s Cancer Institute is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our dear colleague and friend Associate Professor Josh McCarroll, who passed away this week after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer.
Josh joined Children’s Cancer Institute in 2007 as a Faculty of Medicine Fellow and since then he has been an invaluable member of our team. Josh’s contributions to the field of cancer biology particularly through his ground-breaking work in nanomedicine and RNA therapeutics, have left an indelible mark.
In 2018, Josh was promoted to the newly created position of Team Leader and conjoint Associate Professor, where he and his talented team have been at the forefront of developing an RNA-based approach for the treatment of the childhood brain cancer medulloblastoma. His research also made significant advancements in neuroblastoma, lung and pancreatic cancer.
More than just an esteemed researcher, Josh was well known for his unwavering passion for research, his dedication to mentoring students and team members and his warm, collaborative spirit. His positive attitude brightened our days, and his presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
We are committed to ensuring that his valuable work continues, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. Josh leaves behind his beloved wife Phoebe and his two cherished dogs Bo and Bailey. Our hearts go out to Josh’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
