Davide Smussi: Amoxicillin-induced atypical exanthema in EBV and NPC

Davide Smussi, Resident in medical oncology at ASST Spedali Civili Hospital in Brescia, shared an article by Matteo Carpani, et al. on LinkedIn:

“Clinical nugget from my exam of Clinical Medicine: never prescribe amoxicillin in a patient with acute EBV-related mononucleosis—otherwise, they may develop a widespread cutaneous rash!

But what about patients affected by EBV-related nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC)?

We first report a clinical case of amoxicillin-induced atypical exanthema in a patient undergoing systemic treatment for EBV+ NPC, associated with an acute increase and decrease of the circulating levels of EBV-DNA.

And congratulations to my colleague Matteo Carpani for his first first-author publication!”
