Tanel Laisaar: First year results of lung cancer screening pilot study in Estonia
Tanel Laisaar, Head of Lung Clinic at Tartu University Hospital, shared an article on LinkedIn:
“First year results of lung cancer screening pilot study in Estonia just published!
- the population based approach allowed to evaluate quite exactly the target group participation rate; with help of family physicians and nurses as well as dedicated screening coordinators we achieved a participation rate of 79%.
- baseline LDCT was positive 1.4% and intermediate in 5.6% of cases.
- lung cancer prevalence was 1.09% among those included based on PLCOm2012noRace risk score >1.5 and 0.83% among those included based on smoking status (at least 20 pack-years, quit < 15 years ago).
- considerable stage shift of diagnosed lung cancers towards earlier stages was seen.
Second year results are even more exciting!”
