Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide – Breast Cancer Network Australia
Breast Cancer Network Australia posted on LinkedIn:
“The Global Patterns and Trends in Breast Cancer Incidence and Mortality report released today, delivers a confronting reality: breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide and a leading cause of cancer-related death.
The report, which examines the 2022 and projected 2050 global burden of breast cancer across 185 countries, predicts that by 2050 global incidence is expected to increase by 38% and deaths by 68%.
This research reinforces BCNA’s 2025 Policy Priorities calling for increased investment in screening and prevention.
BCNA’s Director of Policy, Advocacy, and Support Services, Vicki Durston, says the report dispels any notion that breast cancer is no longer a major health issue. ‘These are harsh facts, a warning that cannot be ignored. Breast cancer continues to have a profound impact in Australia and around the world, now isn’t the time for complacency. We need sustained investment, coordinated national action, and a commitment to prevention, early detection, treatment access, and strong data systems if we are to see further progress.’
We recognise the emotional weight of this report on those affected by breast cancer. BCNA is here to provide support and resources to help you navigate through any fears or anxieties you may be experiencing. Call BCNA’s Helpline on 1800 500 258 between Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm.
