No child with cancer should die because they lack access to life-saving medicines – United Nations Office at Geneva
United Nations Office at Geneva reshared a post by Bente Mikkelsen, Former Director of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD), on LinkedIn, adding:
“No child with cancer should die because they lack access to life-saving medicines.
Ahead of the International Childhood Cancer Day, World Health Organization and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – ALSAC have launched a global movement to provide children with cancer the medicines they need, regardless of where they live or their ability to pay.”
Quoting Bente Mikkelsen‘s post:
“This is truly groundbreaking News!!!
Thank you to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – ALSAC and World Health Organization. It is time to address children with cronic and cathastropic diseases that was more or less left out from the MDG and SDG agenda.
Improved survival for children with childhood cancer through this initiative and the Global Initiative for childhood cancer (GICC) will spearhead the pathway to acheive SDG on NCDs through health system strengthening and access to medicines as well as improved financial protection.
We need to reduce the inequities in survival and access to care for childhood cancer as well as T1Diabetes, sickle cell disease, cogenital heart disease and other catastropic diseases in children.”
