“Just got back from the Louisiana Oncology Society‘s first-ever workshop on tackling insurance denials in NOLA—and wow, what a turnout!
Every seat was filled, and the conversations were incredibly insightful. We dug into the headaches around denials, appeals, and peer-to-peer reviews, sharing how different oncology clinics navigate these processes.
Big takeaway?
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Every cancer center seems to handle denials differently, which really highlights the need for more collaboration and shared best practices. Huge shoutout to Rachael Willeford, CHONC from American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for her perspective—her experience working on denials in Louisiana was invaluable.
The feedback was so strong that folks are already asking for a 2.0 workshop!
We’re also working to identify issues with the Right to Prompt Coverage law, with hopes of pushing this beyond Louisiana. Right now, it doesn’t apply to ERISA-covered policies, leaving too many patients without protection. If your practice has faced challenges, please share your experience.
