Alisa Kamalyan: Working in the field of childhood cancer is like living on the shore of an ocean
Alisa Kamalyan, Head of Psychosocial Services at the Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“February 15th is International Childhood Cancer Day.
Working in the field of childhood cancer is like living on the shore of an ocean. The ocean offers a wide spectrum of emotions: at times, the water is calm, its vastness and beauty bringing you joy, filling your chest with the excitement of life. You can peacefully swim in the water, feeling the gift of the moment with your whole body.
But sometimes, the waves are so strong they can hit you hard enough to knock you off your feet, so powerful they can pull you into the ocean and leave you gasping for air. In those moments, you feel fear, brokenness, terror, and despair.
Sometimes, it feels like you can’t withstand the strong waves anymore, and you think you’ll never go near the water again, that you’ll go far away. But in those moments, the sun comes out and gently caresses you, and you, as always, smile and realize – your place to live is right by the water.”
