Carrie Wolinetz: A monumental loss for both The NIH and for the nation
Carrie Wolinetz, Senior Principal at Lewis-Burke Associates LLC, posted on LinkedIn:
“This is a monumental loss for both The National Institutes of Health and for the nation. Mike has probably forgotten more about the ins and outs of research grants policy than any of us will ever hope to know. That was in addition to being a superstar cardiovascular scientist, clinical trials guru, extraordinary data analyst, and kind and caring colleague. Any research leader in the country will tell you that Mike was ready to hop on the phone and take action on even the wonkiest of grant policy issues. The number of times I mused ‘I wonder about this problem…’ and the next thing I knew, Mike would have a full-blown analysis, replete with data, that he’d spent all night working on are manifold. A truly dedicated public servant in the mission of improving health through research.”
Monica Bertagnolli, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), shared this post on LinkedIn, adding:
“Carrie said this all so well – Mike is truly an exceptional leader who brought depth of experience and great administrative talent to ensuring that NIH resources were used effectively and ethically. Academic institutions, countless individual researchers and the American public owe a great debt to Mike for his dedication and hard work. On a personal note, Mike cares deeply for his colleagues and his presence made the entire team so much better.”
