Enrique Grande: Meta-analysis compares ablative therapies for localized renal cell carcinoma
Enrique Grande, Head of Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn about recent paper by Ryan S Huang et al., titled “Comparative efficacy and safety of ablative therapies in the management of primary localised renal cell carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis” published on Science Direct.
Authors: Ryan S Huang, Ronald Chow, Ali Benour, David Chen, Gabriel Boldt, Christopher J D Wallis, Anand Swaminath, Prof Charles B Simone II, Prof Michael Lock, Srinivas Raman.
“Meta-analysis compares ablative therapies for localized renal cell carcinoma:
- SBRT shows highest local control rates (95% at 5 years), especially for larger tumors (≥4 cm).
- Radiofrequency, microwave ablation, and cryoablation remain effective for small tumors (<4 cm).
- All methods have low rates of severe adverse events (1–3%).”
