Nina Niu Sanford: Why detailed cause of death info is critical
Nina Niu Sanford, Assistant Professor and Chief of Gastrointestinal Radiation Oncology at Harvard/Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital, shared an article by Christine A Iacobuzio-Donahue, et al. on X:
“Reminder that in patients with both local & distant progression, can’t assume mortality due to distant mets.
If limited DM, cause of death more likely from locally destructive tumor (seminal pancreas autopsy paper).
This is why detailed cause of death info critical (but rarely reported).”
DPC4 gene status of the primary carcinoma correlates with patterns of failure in patients with pancreatic cancer.
