To Buy Food or Fund Cancer Treatment? – Medicaid Cancer Foundation

Medicaid Cancer Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn:

World Cancer Day Symposium – Addressing Cancer & Financial Toxicity

At the Project PINK BLUE Symposium, we at Medicaid Cancer Foundation joined key stakeholders to discuss a critical issue: “To Buy Food or Fund Cancer Treatment? Inflation, Financial Toxicity & The Cancer Health Fund.”

A major highlight was the premiere of the documentary, Blood in My Stool—a deeply emotional film featuring the experiences of two cancer survivors. Seeing their journeys in graphic form made the realities of cancer more relatable and underscored the need for early detection, support, and the message that cancer is NOT a death sentence. We were also proud to see our CEO, Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, featured in this impactful documentary.

The panel session featured distinguished speakers and dignitaries, including:
President of the Network of Persons Impacted by Cancer in Nigeria (NePICiN), Ms Mary-Gloria Orji, representing cancer survivors
Mrs. Mide Agboola, a breast cancer survivor
Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, Former Commissioner for Health, Cross River State
Dr Uzor Ngoladi, PhD, Head, Research and Publication, Athena Research Center for Policy and Leadership

Moderators
Ms. Gloria Chinyere Okwu
Dr Mohammed Lecky

Key topics centered around the financial burden of cancer care, the urgency of sustainable funding, and the role of policies in reducing financial toxicity for cancer patients. It was an enlightening and solution-driven conversation.

At the end of the day, one thing was clear—no one should have to choose between feeding their family and fighting for their life. We must work together to bridge the cancer care gap and advocate for accessible, affordable treatment for all.
