Monika Pansari: Early detection saves lives

Monika Pansari, Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology at Fortis Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Early detection saves lives! Have you scheduled your Cervical Cancer Screening? Regular screenings can help detect abnormal changes in the cervix early, significantly reducing the risk of cervical cancer. Take charge of your health today!

Types of Cervical Cancer Screenings:

Pap Smear (Pap Test): Detects precancerous or abnormal cell changes in the cervix, allowing early intervention. Recommended every 3 years for women aged 21-65.

HPV Test: Screens for high-risk HPV strains that can cause cervical cancer. Can be done alone or with a Pap test for women above 30, every 5 years.

Colposcopy: A detailed examination of the cervix using a magnifying device if Pap or HPV tests show abnormalities.

HPV Vaccination: Protects against high-risk HPV types that cause most cervical cancers. Getting vaccinated at the recommended age significantly lowers the risk of developing cervical cancer.

Recommended Cervical Cancer Screenings by Age:

Ages 21-29 – Pap Smear (every 3 years)
Ages 30-65 – Pap Smear + HPV Test (Co-testing every 5 years) OR Pap Smear alone (every 3 years) OR HPV Test alone (every 5 years)
Ages 65+ – Screening may be stopped if past tests were normal.”
